Directing

When The Sun Falls

My pride and joy! Directed my senior year for my thesis in Acting and Directing. Written by my dear friend, Shea Messinger.

When The Sun Falls tells the story of three generations of fiercely frustrated women. They pull at each other in this tenderly magical play about stories, truths and the hardest things to say.

This production was filmed by the Bennington College Drama Department.

Winter Carnival at Hubbard Hall

Hubbard Hall Center for Arts & Education puts on their Winter Carnival of New Work each year as an opportunity for playwrights, young and old, to submit their work for a chance to be performed by members of the Hubbard Hall community. I had the privilege of directing four of the winning plays and got to work with a wonderful cast of local talent.

Each play was ten minutes in length and ranged from a story about a truck driver being sent to an alternate dimension moments before colliding with either a small car or a bus to a scene between a young boy struggling with anxiety about the future and an older gentleman who provides his prospective having lived his life in full. I truly enjoyed working on these pieces as they were the first projects I got to direct outside of Bennington College.

Baby With The Bathwater

Baby With The Bathwater is a dark comedy about the trials and tribulations of raising a child and the inevitable consequences for mistakes made by unqualified parents.

This production was put on as part of my Directing I course. My classmates and I directed, designed, performed, and managed the entire play which we were able to perform for our peers at the end of term.

This was a particularly challenging production as we needed to act as both performer and stage crew helping with scene transitions and costume changes. Directing was a group effort as we all had to collaborate to ensure the play as a whole was coherent while maintaining our individual ideas as directors.

24 Hour Plays: Object Plays

Each year the Bennington Drama Department puts on two 24-hour play festivals, the second of which is the Object Plays. Writers are tasked with creating a 10 minute piece centered around a different object which a team of actors, director, designers, and stage manager aim to put on within a 24 hour period. I had the chance to direct two of these plays which provided me the unique challenge of presenting a solid piece of theater with only one day’s worth of rehearsal.
